Description
A departure from my usual finely detailed scrimshaw Howling Wolf is carved on a unique large elk burr. The wolf stands out from the background of mountains and trees. Subtle color further accentuates the carved wolf. The nubby exterior edge makes the perfect natural frame. The elk burrs I carve are natural sheds (the elk begin growing antlers in the spring and shed them in the winter months after the rut,) and are harvested from an elk farm.
A high-quality nickel ring and hook style hardware has been applied to the back Howling Wolf for secure wearability.
To care for your scrimshaw, I recommend you never wear a scrimshaw piece in swimming or the shower. Also, for genuine ivory pieces and other natural materials, (like this carved burr belt buckle) it is best not to leave it sitting in direct sunlight or exposed to the intense heat, like that of a vehicle in the summer. I use the most permanent inks available for my artwork and I have applied several layers of Renaissance wax to preserve the colors. Some fading however is unavoidable. Each hand etched piece comes ready to wrap in a gift box.
